Dear Friends of Shepherds Refuge,
We have great news to report! After at least two years of planning, the caretakers cabin is jumping out of the ground. Rob Jones has done a spectacular job managing the architect, local permitting government agencies and contractors to get the cabin built quickly.
The cabin will be dried in before real winter weather arrives, allowing work to continue while “baby, it’s cold outside!” Further the Lord has shown favor to SR by moving several companies to donate significant materials and make donations to the ministry. All of this happened so fast we see it as only the Lord providing. The Lord has also brought Les and Lisa Shrock forward to take on the role of caretakers when the cabin is complete. They will be raising support for their ministry here. More on that in the next issue!
In the past three months we welcomed Tom Fowler as our newest Director. Tom’s career has been hospitality management in the golf industry and fund raising. He has been a great fit and we are glad he is on board.
Being a pastor or missionary has always been a difficult and under-appreciated career. The Lord guided Ruedi and Sandy to start SR making respite accommodations available to pastors, missionaries and Christian workers at no charge. At this time of year, could I ask you to prayerfully consider a year-end gift to Shepherds’ Refuge to continue this ministry to ministers? In addition to cash, appreciated stock can be donated giving you a tax deduction for the full value of the appreciated assets for tax purposes at only the cost of your initial investment. If you are at the age where the IRS’ Required Minimum Distributions from a 401(k) plan are required, you could gift that and allow the tax deduction to offset the gains your investments have created. Thanks in advance for your consideration.
Grace and peace to you all,
Dave Tulka,
Chairman
